Examiner.com: Lou Barletta to Introduce Immigration Bill
May 12thBy Scott Ferrante
After defeating longtime US Representative Paul Kanjorski last November, Rep. Lou Barletta has announced he is ready to introduce his first piece of congressional legislation. Barletta who gained national attention for implementing strict anti-illegal immigration laws as mayor of Hazleton, wants to cut federal spending from “sanctuary cities” that permit illegal immigration.
The freshman Republican, who represents Carbon and Monroe counties, has asked the Congressional Research Service to calculate how much each receives in federal taxpayer dollars. The Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act is designed to target more than a 100 cities in the United States, where Barletta believes federal immigration policy is not being enforced. If the legislation is passed cities could face losing all federal funding if they do not fully enforce federal immigration laws.
"Local elected officials who choose to ignore enforcement of federal immigration policy are aiding and assisting illegal aliens. They should not receive millions or even billions in tax dollars as a reward." Barletta also commented on the Obama Administration, "I don't think the administration is serious at all about solving our illegal immigration problems."
