HAZLETON – Late this morning, Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta received a call requesting a meeting with some of Senator Hillary Clinton’s economic advisors to discuss Clinton’s record on economic development and to learn about the successes Hazleton has seen under Mayor Barletta.

The mayor will meet with the following members of Senator Clinton’s economic team:

·    Sheila Menz, Economic Development Aide to Senator Clinton and former spokeswoman for Sen. Joseph Lieberman;

·    Eva Haasett, former Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor for the City of Buffalo;

·    Ed Abounder, an organized labor official from Rome, New York.

Following their meeting, Mayor Barletta and Senator Clinton’s team will walk to Luzerne Medical, Inc., 92 Wyoming Ave., Hazleton.The owner of the business, Teresa Jacketti, is publicly supporting both Senator Clinton and Mayor Barletta in their elections this year. She displays both candidates’ signs in her store window.

“As I have said all along, I have not endorsed any candidate in this year’s presidential election. I am disappointed that none of the three major candidate have come to Hazleton to address the problem of illegal immigration,” Barletta said. “Nevertheless, I am glad Senator Clinton’s campaign requested this meeting. Anytime I have the opportunity to promote the great City of Hazleton and all of the hard work the citizens and business owners have put forth to revitalize our city I will do so.

“I would be happy to meet with representatives from Senator McCain’s or Senator Obama’s campaigns, or even Congressman Ron Paul’s campaign, for that matter.”
