HAZLETON – U.S. Congressional candidate Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta re-issued his challenge to Congressman Paul Kanjorski for more debates across the 11th Congressional District as Mr. Kanjorski launched a wave of negative phone calls.
Barletta’s campaign headquarters began receiving reports about extremely negative “push polling” conducted by Sun Surveys, a South Florida-based company, last week.
On Wednesday, a couple came to Barletta campaign headquarters to report negative push polling.
The poll asked questions about Mayor Barletta’s Italian heritage and made extremely disparaging remarks about the City of Hazleton, local business leaders and economic development officials, the Hazleton Police Department, and more.
On Thursday, Barletta campaign headquarters received more phone calls from people saying they received multiple, similar calls from Sun Surveys in southern Florida.
Sun Surveys is based in Miami, Fla., and has an “F” rating from the Southeast Florida Better Business Bureau. An “F” rating means, “We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.” (http://www.seflorida.bbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=11011932)
The president of Sun Surveys is Wade Perry, who worked for Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research – the company that conducted the first Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee survey for Kanjorski in March.
This morning, Vince Galko, manager for Mayor Barletta’s campaign, sent a letter to the manager of Kanjorski’s campaign calling on the incumbent’s re-election effort to stop using despicable negative calls and to stop having a cameraman follow Mayor Barletta and his campaign volunteers and harass them.
