Gov. Schweiker & Lt. Gov. Cawley endorse Lou Barletta for governor of Pennsylvania

Former Pennsylvania Governor Mark Schweiker and former Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley today endorsed Lou Barletta to be the Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania. In a press conference in Bucks County, Schweiker and Cawley both expressed strong support for Barletta, a former mayor and congressman, as the only Republican who can beat Democrat Josh Shapiro in the November general election. The Republican primary election is on May 17, 2022.

Mark Schweiker served as governor of Pennsylvania from 2001 to 2003, having served previously as lieutenant governor and as a member of the Bucks County Board of Commissioners.

“In my view, there is only one Republican who is the correct choice, and that’s Lou Barletta. We all know Lou. He’s been fighting the conservative fights for nearly 20 years,” said Gov. Schweiker. “There are many candidates still in this race, and there are many voters who remain undecided, according to the polls. So, as we head down the home stretch here, with the primary election this coming Tuesday, I am calling on all Republican voters to think about November. Think about which candidate truly represents our core values and can beat Josh Shapiro. That’s Lou Barletta.”

Jim Cawley served as lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania from 2011 to 2015, having served previously as chairman of the Bucks County Board of Commissioners.

“After more than a year on the campaign trail, we are now just a few days away from the Republican primary election on May 17th, and it’s the time when most voters really start to tune in and make their selections. To me, the choice is obvious,” said Lt. Gov. Cawley. “If we want a proven fighter for our conservative ideals, which will put Pennsylvania back on the right track, Lou Barletta is the candidate. If we want someone who has always been there – been a leader who does what’s right no matter what the media or his political opponents say – then Lou Barletta is the candidate.”

Schweiker and Cawley touted Barletta’s background as a successful small business owner, mayor, and congressman as proof that he has the experience needed to steer Pennsylvania back on track. Barletta will reinvigorate the economy, unleash Pennsylvania’s energy resources, fight illegal immigration and crime, and restore the rights of parents to be involved in their children’s education.

“I thank Gov. Schweiker and Lt. Gov. Cawley for their strong support and their willingness to stand with me as we fight for what’s important for Pennsylvania,” Barletta said. “I have a history of beating Democrats, having been elected mayor in a heavily Democratic city and defeated a 26-year incumbent Democrat for Congress. As the mayor of Hazleton, I stood on the national stage to fight illegal immigration when nobody else in the country was doing it.”

“I have fought for our conservative values as a pro-God, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-life, and pro-America public servant,” Barletta concluded. “I am proven, road-tested, and ready, and I am eager to lead the Great Pennsylvania Comeback.”
