Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, the likely Democratic candidate for governor, today showed again that he cares nothing for the rights of parents to be involved in health and education decisions related to their children. Shapiro has gone to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, asking them to keep a mask mandate in place for children in school beyond December 4, when a Commonwealth judge said it should expire.
Former mayor and congressman Lou Barletta, the leading Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania, today issued the following statement:
“There isn’t a governor in America who has botched the COVID-19 response as badly as Tom Wolf, and now Josh Shapiro is making it worse by targeting kids in school with the excessive mask mandate. Parents know what’s best for their kids and they should be the ones who decide if children will wear masks in school all day long, not some dictator in Harrisburg.
“The studies the government cites to support school mask mandates were not designed to prove that masks are effective. The schools that were examined used a number of preventative measures, so there’s no way to know what effect masks actually have. What we do know is that children are far less susceptible to the virus than adults, and that mask wearing interferes with children’s learning process. Masks cause daylong discomfort for kids, difficulty breathing, obstructed vision because of fogged eyeglasses, and interference with communication, learning, and social interaction.
“This is all about appearances and government control. When I’m governor, we will follow the actual science – not political science – and restore commonsense and freedom to Pennsylvania.”
