Hazleton, PA - Former mayor and congressman Lou Barletta, leading Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania, today announced his Healthcare Advisory Board. The advisory board consists of private-sector healthcare executives who have firsthand experience dealing with an overregulated federal and state healthcare system. The advisory board will assist in the crafting of Barletta's healthcare legislative priorities in order to hit the ground running on day one upon being sworn in as governor.
The advisory board includes:
Charles Herman, MD, MBA - Plastic/reconstructive surgeon, researcher, innovator, and medical author (Lehigh Co.)
Larry Kaiser, MD - Thoracic surgeon, former health system CEO, healthcare consulting Managing Director (Philadelphia Co.)
Amy Durham - behavioral health and substance abuse recovery center CEO (Monroe Co.)
Louis Capozzi, JD - Managing Partner at leading law firm specializing in medicolegal work (Cumberland Co.)
Mark Gusek - CEO of senior living facilities (Erie Co.)
Maria DiGiorgio McColgan, MD - Board-Certified Pediatrician, Child Abuse Pediatrician and District of Philadelphia Board of Education Member (Philadelphia Co.)
Barletta issued the following statement:
“Healthcare should be high quality, people should have choices, and it should be affordable. The one-size-fits-all approach just doesn’t work for everybody. Every state has different challenges, and Pennsylvania is no different. We must also recognize that young people do not have the same needs as the elderly, or people with persistent health problems. We must also find ways to make prescription drugs more affordable. When I’m governor, I will work to ensure that every citizen has access to the best healthcare, in a system that is best for them. We will protect people with pre-existing conditions, and we’ll look out for the taxpayers at the same time.”
