Sen. Rick Santorum endorses Barletta for Governor

Former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum today endorsed Lou Barletta, former mayor and congressman, to be the next governor of Pennsylvania. Santorum served in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2007 and ran for the Republican nomination for president in 2012. Barletta has been at or near the top of every public poll released in the race so far. The Republican primary is Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Santorum issued the following statement:

“I have known Lou Barletta for over 20 years and he has always been a solid conservative who has never shied away from the battles that need to be fought. He stood on the national stage by himself when he fought against illegal immigration in Hazleton and he has proven to be able to win over Democrats, meaning he will be a strong nominee who can beat Josh Shapiro in November. He will unleash Pennsylvania’s energy resources to create jobs, and will restore the rights of parents to be involved in their children’s education. Lou Barletta is a pro-God, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-life, pro-America public servant, and I am proud to give him my emphatic endorsement.”

Barletta issued the following statement:

“I am honored and grateful to have the support of Rick Santorum, who has been such a conservative warrior all these years. As a Republican candidate for governor, I am proven, road-tested, and ready to lead The Great Pennsylvania Comeback. We will need a candidate who will unite the Republican Party and also win in November, and I believe I am the only candidate who can accomplish both of those things. With Rick Santorum’s support, we are gaining even more momentum, and I invite all voters to join us as we restore common sense to Harrisburg.”
